Big Bash and 5th Grade Awards Ceremony

Good morning everyone! Hard to believe that our kids are 5th graders - and that this will be their last year at MBES! I know that the end of the year seems very far away, but it is time to start planning for 5th grade graduation and the 5th Grade Bash. With that in mind, I am trying to gather up volunteers to get a committee started and get the ball rolling. This function is for ALL 5th grade students and I want everyone to feel that they are a part of pulling it together.

As you may or may not know, the 5th Grade Bash is an end-of-year party for all 5th graders. The party is put on by the 5th grade, not the school or the PTO. Fundraising occurs throughout the year as we are responsible for the cost of the bash. That means that we need to start planning at the beginning of the year to make sure that we have enough funds available to put on a great party. We typically use two methods of fundraising: morning biscuit sales and Field Day t-shirts.

As we start raising funds, we can begin planning the party! In the past the themes have included a Beach Bash, Olympic Games, Carnival and Dr. Seuss. As long as we have approval from Mrs. Stancil and the funds to pay for it, we pretty much have free rein on the theme and activities.

The final piece is our gift to the school. Each graduating class leaves something behind for the school. Gifts in the past have included: planting trees, benches for the front of the school, refurbishing the patio outside the cafeteria and the memorial brick walkway. Again, we decide what we'd like the gift to be.

I will have volunteer sign-up sheets in place for Curriculum Night. The more parents we have assisting, the more we can spread out the work and not place too much of a burden on any one person.

If you are interested in helping out and/or taking charge of a particular part of the Bash (biscuit sales, t-shirts, class gift, party planning), please let me know. If you have an older child and have been through the 5th Grade Bash experience before - we'd really love your insight! Thanks so much for your support!

P.S. If you have dreamed of being the 5th Grade Bash Committee Chair since your child entered Kindergarten, please raise your hand and let me know! I'm more than happy to hand this off :)
