Dear Parents,
I wanted to take a moment to tell you a bit about progress reports.
First, this year Mr. Arnold and I both are teaching Social Studies. He is covering government, geography, and economics and I am covering history. We have both gotten off to a good start with the Bill of Rights and the Events Leading up to the Civil War. However, we are still working on mastering this material and therefore have not assessed our students for a grade that would be reported into Power Grade. Please be checking Power School in the near future for those grades as we get to them.
Secondly, some of you may be concerned about your child's reading grade. This reading grade is based on two assessments, one on Genre and one on Figurative Language. Both of these assessments are coming home in Friday Folders today for you to look at and review with your child. I have gone over each of these with the students as well and they have made corrections. We discussed how to be a "smart" test taker and "smart" ways to study for assignments from this point forward. I think doing a bit of both of these in the future will help to improve scores greatly. We also discussed when to start studying for a test as well as where to go to find material to study (graphic organizers, blog practice, etc.). For these two tests I am requiring that all students who did not make an A retake the test next week (Wednesday). Scores from the retake (for these tests only) will be replaced on Power School, not averaged with the old grade. Therefore, please check Power School at the end of next week with your child's updated reading grade. In the mean time talk with your child on what it means to be a "smart" test taker and how to study for tests in the future. Ask to see their graphic organizers and their Tiger Rising "book".
As a final reminder, these are progress reports only and not a final grade. I am confident we will see lots of improvement by the end of the quarter:)
Thank you for your understanding,
Anna Warren
